2016 Spotlight on the Arts Festival

April 15th - May 9th

SPOA 2016

31st Annual Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts Festival starts on April 15th with a glittering evening at Old Town Hall celebrating three decades of arts in the City of Fairfax. Sponsored by the City of Fairfax in cooperation with George Mason University and the arts community of Fairfax, Spotlight on the Arts continues its commitment to support and encourage the awareness of cultural opportunities in the greater Fairfax community. It has grown into a significant three-week festival and is now considered one of Virginia’s foremost arts festivals. With outstanding music performances from leading musicians, quality arts exhibitions, dance (both classical and modern) stimulating theater performances, community activities and events including “Artful Living” an Art Show in association with Our Daily Bread, and the hits of last year including Fashion in Motion. This year’s Festival of youth, of music, of dance and so much more all highlight the emerging vibrant art scene in historic Old Town Fairfax.

In 2015 Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts won two awards.  The Jack Wood Award for Town & Gown in the Community was presented to John Mason, our President at a Ceremony at Mason.  We also received the Virginia Magazine 2015 Award for best Arts Event in Northern Virginia.

In association with the City of Fairfax Young at Heart Senior Centre, we participate in the County Commission on Aging in the first annual Creative Aging Festival.  We hi lighted Fashion with the City of Fairfax Woman’s Club Fashion Show in combination with Fairfax Academy for Communications & the Arts and TJ Maxx.

We hosted not for profit partner, Our Daily Bread and the 2nd Annual “Artful Living” and supported “ Paint a Pot” with local business Twins Ace Hardware and raising funds for Children’s Miracle Network.

Lastly, we celebrated the 45th Anniversary of the City of Fairfax Band Association - both in their own featured Spotlight Concert and the various ensembles as they performed during the Festival.

Most importantly we furthered our mission to raise funding for the Spotlight on the Arts Scholarships for local arts students to attend George Mason University to study  all aspects of the Arts. During  2016 we will be awarding our 100th Scholarship - truly a milestone achievement ! We are excited to be a major Arts sponsor and enabling so many students to realize their dreams in the Arts.
