Cancellations due to Inclement Weather

The City of Fairfax Parks and Recreation Department follows the Fairfax County School’s cancellation policy.

All classes/programs starting before 3pm are cancelled when Fairfax County schools close for the day.  For classes starting at 3pm or later, a decision will be made by 1pm that day.  When Fairfax County schools have a delayed opening, classes will be held as scheduled.  On weekends, or if you have questions about classes being held call the departments Inclement Weather Line.

Please check the City website at www.fairfaxva.gov for specifics information on all delays, early dismissals and closings.  You may also check the website for Fairfax County school information: www.fcps.edu.

In the event of inclement weather during a time when public schools are not in session or in the case of extenuating circumstances such as extreme temperature or issues with busing that do not affect Parks and Recreation programs, the City of Fairfax Parks and Recreation Department Director or designee will make a decision on cancellations and delays.  In these cases, Senior Center will operate on the delayed opening schedule 10am-5pm. There will be no transportation by FASTRAN. Please call the Senior Center before leaving your home for updated Center information and possible cancellations.

This information will be posted on the website www.fairfaxva.gov or call 703-385-7858.  Staff will make all effort to contact participants by posting on the city website www.fairfaxva.gov, local news channels, as well as notifications by City Alerts, mass e-mails and, when appropriate, phone calls.

Parks and Recreation Staff will make all efforts to make-up any missed classes due to inclement weather and will issue credits to your account/refunds if this is not possible.
