All dogs four months and older must be licensed and vaccinated against rabies. License renewals are due by February 1 of each year. Dogs moving into the city must be licensed as soon as possible, preferably within 30 days.

Dog licenses are available for $5 per year for spayed or neutered dogs and $10 per year for unaltered dogs.

To obtain a license, owners must present a valid rabies certificate every year for each dog, If the dog has been neutered or spayed, a certificate from the dog's veterinarian is required (first-time licenses only). Multi-year dog tags are available. The multi-year tag cannot exceed the rabies expiration date.

Licenses may be purchased in person at the Treasurer's Office (City Hall, Room 234) or download the application and mail the completed application along with the certificates (returned with license) and the proper fee. For information, call the Treasurer’s Office at 703.385.7900.

NOTE: There will be NO refunds for unused years of the multiyear tags.
