The city provides real estate tax relief and rent relief on a year-to-year basis to residents who are age 65 and older and for persons with disabilities. Applications are sent out in early February and must be completed and returned to the Finance Department no later than April 15 of that year. In order to qualify, the net worth of applicants and their families should be no greater than $340,000, excluding the applicant’s home and one acre of land. Combined gross family income may not exceed $72,000.
Applicants are required to submit copies of all Social Security and income statements; pension statements; income tax returns - with all schedules and attachments; all interest statements from stocks, bonds, money markets, savings, certificates of deposit (as of December 31) from all those living in the household. All information on the application is confidential and not open to public inspection.
