Neighborhood Watch is a community partnership crime prevention program in which volunteers serve as the eyes and ears of the community, reporting suspicious activity to the Police Department for attention and review. Police officers conduct all law enforcement actions.

Neighborhood Watch are active partners with the police in patrolling neighborhoods and protecting residents, and do not have any law enforcement responsibility or authority.

Neighborhood Watch volunteers:

  • Conduct citizen patrols in their community for any suspicious activity — as well as other community safety issues such as burned out street lights, damaged or missing road signs, and abandoned cars.
  • Report suspicious activity to the police department. Emergencies are reported immediately, and non-emergency issues (such as expired vehicle license plates) can be reported during regular business hours.
  • Pay attention to neighborhood needs involving quality of life. These needs may include monitoring vacant homes, watching out for neighbors who may need assistance, and keeping an eye on children out and about around the neighborhood.
