Volunteers in Police Service program (VIPS) offers community members an opportunity to share their talents, skills and abilities to support police services.

Through VIPS, the police department matches volunteers with identified needs in the department, such as:

  • Bilingual Services
  • Citizen Services
  • Clerical / Office Support
  • Computer Technologies
  • Communications 
  • Crime Prevention
  • Data Entry
  • Graphic Design
  • Photography

Eligible VIPS candidates must be:

  • Age 21 or older
  • U.S. citizens
  • In good physical health 
  • Maintain a satisfactory driving record

Volunteers undergo a brief background investigation — and, upon acceptance in VIPS, are trained to be familiar with department services and basic rules and regulations.
