Fall Festival Kids Events at Old Town Hall
10 AM: ABC Roar! Storytelling
ROAR those ABCs with Chiêu Anh Urban in an interactive storytelling session with crafts! Kids 5 and under will delight in this romp through the animal kingdom– from armadillos to zebra sharks– as they learn the alphabet! Urban is the author of ABC ROAR, 123 ZOOM, and many other exciting children’s books.
11 AM: Paper Plate Primate Fun
Elementary-aged kids will love the playful primate facts and paper plate monkey craft that Debra Kempf Shumaker has in store after reading her book Peculiar Primates: Fun Facts About These Curious Creatures. From flossing to thumping chests, learn just how extraordinary and diverse the primate world can be!
12 PM: SLAM DUNK! Kickstart Your Sportswriting
Young sports lovers will learn how to become sportswriters in this interactive event for kids 8-12 with seasoned writer, Fred Bowen. Bowen has written twenty-seven sports books for kids, as well as a weekly sports column in KidsPost for over twenty years. In his newest book, Hardcourt: Stories From 75 Years of the National Basketball Association, Bowen follows NBA heroes like LeBron James and Michael Jordan as he shows the dramatic and exciting history of one of America’s favorite pastimes.
1 PM: Draw Your Own Out-of-this-World Graphic Novel!
Get creative with Jonathan Roth, author of the graphic novel, Rover and Speck: This Planet Rocks! In this hands-on workshop, Roth takes students aged 7-12 on a ride through creating their own compelling characters, and putting them into a cool graphic novel of their very own. Rover and Speck’s classic, comic-style art, thrilling plot, and laugh-out-loud moments will have kids rooting for these two mismatched space rovers and wanting to draw their own!
2 PM: Making Filters: STEM Fun
How do filters work? Enjoy a hands-on, absorbing science project with Shana Keller, author of the picture book The Peach Pit Parade: A WWI Story – which follows a young girl helping find resources to make mask filters!
