The Department of Information Technology provides leadership and guidance to City departments in the introduction and use of new technologies to enhance City services to citizens. The staff provides an array of technical services and products for City management, staff, elected officials and citizens.
Among these services for citizens are:

Taxes are payable online through a secure web site.Real estate database - Real estate database
Citizens may search the real estate database to find a variety of general and specific property and assessment information. The database provides basic information for all properties located in the City of Fairfax. Database information includes tax map and account numbers, property legal descriptions, land size, sales history, current assessment and 5-year assessment history.
Fairfax City Alert - Electronic Message Alert System
Fairfax City Alert allows the City of Fairfax to promptly provide subscribers with important information for a variety of situations, such as severe weather, road closures, meeting schedules, volunteer opportunities, special events and more.
Web site
The city updates its web site on an ongoing basis and constantly adds new information and automated services. To share ideas regarding the web site, please contact the web administrator.
Mobile technologies
City staff in many departments are taking their data on the road in order to provide citizens with services more quickly and efficiently. Residents and visitors can get city maps and other important information online. Reporting problems in the city is easy through the Fairfax City Resolve application. Additional programs will be added in the future.
GIS and mapping
The city’s GIS allows advanced mapping data and analysis for all. Basic maps are available online or specialized maps can be created by using the city’s online mapping tools, including Pictometry® which allows close to 3 dimensional mapping.
