Pre-Payment Information:
For certain offenses you may waive your court appearance and prepay the fine and costs. Payment must be received in our office at least one day prior to your court date. You may not prepay the fine and costs if your charge is for reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, or driving while intoxicated. Please note: If you do prepay a fine, that will be considered an admission of guilt and a waiver of your hearing.
If you decide to waive your right to a trial and prepay your ticket, you may choose from the following options:
- Personal Check or Money Order: Please send a copy of the summons with your payment, or include your case number or ticket number on your check. Please make checks payable to "City General District Court."
- Online Credit Card Payment: Tickets can be paid online through the State of Virginia website. See Directions for online payment.
Processing fees are assessed whether or not you appear in court. Processing fees are $66 per incident. If you receive two or more tickets at the same time, there is a $66 processing fee (plus the fine) for the first ticket and then $15 processing fee (plus the fine) for each additional ticket there after.
If you choose not to prepay your ticket, you must appear in court. If you do not appear, you will be assessed an additional $35 Tried in Absence fee in addition of the fine and processing fee. Also, the judge will assess your fine, which may be more than the prepayment amount listed.

| Regular Speeding | $6 per mile that you were going over the speed limit |
| Speeding in a school crossing or highway work zone | $7 per mile that you were going over the speed limit |
| Speeding in a residential zone | $8 per mile that you were going over the speed limit plus an additional $200 fee |
