A few quick facts about Fairfax City winter weather services:

  • Before, during, and after inclement weather, the Public Works Department crews monitor and treat roads as appropriate. Snow plowing begins after three or more inches of snow accumulation, and continues until all roads are cleared and the weather event ends. Primary roads are cleared first, then secondary and residential roads.
  • City residents are asked to remove snow from sidewalks on their property as promptly as possible after a snow event, to facilitate safe travel of pedestrians, including schoolchildren accessing school buses and public transit users.

  • The city will post current resource information on the city news page, including where to report hazardous road conditions, downed limbs, or other conditions in the city's public right-of-way.
