Jermantown Road Corridor Improvements Open House

Jermantown Road in Fairfax City past and present black and white and colorFairfax City seeks your input on preliminary design concepts for the Jermantown Road Corridor Improvement Project (Route 50 to the city line) at a public open house May 31 at Katherine Johnson Middle School.

Work on this project began in 2018 when the city engaged a consulting engineer to develop a concept plan, and the city received $21M in NVTA funding in 2019 for this project. Since that time, the city started preliminary work to identify existing conditions and key areas to address on the corridor. The city is now re-launching the design process for this project, and the open house will re-engage the public early in this new stage of development.

The concept planning suggested that the project focuses on spot widening; implementing multimodal features to improve walking, biking, and access to bus stops; and consolidating driveways where possible. Jermantown Road provides key local access (residential, school, and commercial locations) and connections to Fairfax County. Current conditions are challenging for some users, and accommodating future growth and changes will require improvements. Click here or on the image above for a PDF of the maps.

On May 9, Mayor and City Council held a work session on the project with the Transportation Division; click here to watch the work session. Also, you may visit the Meetings page to download related documents and information.
