Home MenuStop the Bleed and First Aid Training
Our units respond as quickly and safely as possible to medical emergencies, but it still frequently takes minutes before our units arrive due to the location of the emergency, access, and traffic. In the event of a traumatic injury, precious amounts of blood can be lost by the patient during this time period. Our department's goal is to train employees and citizens in basic first aid and Stop the Bleed to preserve as much blood as possible prior to the arrival of our units to increase the chances of a positive outcome.
What is Stop the Bleed?
Stop the Bleed is a national initiative to encourage bystanders to become trained and equipped to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. Uncontrolled bleeding is the number one cause of preventable death from trauma. You can help save a life by knowing how to stop bleeding if someone, including yourself, is injured.

Where can I obtain supplies to Stop the Bleed?
Our department will help consult with citizens and/or businesses that are interested in information regarding the best supplies to purchase and methods to locate these supplies within your business to ensure the greatest availability to the public for use if the need arises.
In addition, The City of Fairfax has purchased Stop the Bleed kits and located them within every AED station within City buildings as well as equipped various staff vehicles with these life-saving kits. We hope to never need to use them, but have placed them there just in case.
