Fairfax Blvd & Meredith Ave Drainage Improvements:
Project Description: This project will improve storm sewer capacity at the Fairfax Blvd and Meredith Ave intersection to address flooding of the roadway during intense storm events.

Stafford Drive Stream Restoration
Project Description: This project will restore approximately 2,400 linear feet of the north fork of the Accotink Creek, from Plantation Pkwy to Ranger Road Park. The project will follow principles of Natural Channel Design to provide a stream that is resistant to erosion, better utilizes the floodplain, and mimics ideal natural conditions. This project will provide significant credit towards the City’s Chesapeake Bay TMDL Goals.

FUTURE PROJECTS:
Ashby Pond Dredging and Retrofit
Project Description: This project will dredge Ashby Pond to restore stormwater detention capacity, add a sediment forebay to the pond, and restore an eroding outfall channel that feeds the pond. This project will provide and aesthetic and functional improvement to the stormwater components of Ashby Pond Conservatory, as well as significant credit towards the City’s Chesapeake Bay TMDL goals.
Project Schedule: 30% design plans are complete. Grant application will be submitted to the Department of Environmental Quality for funding support. The project is scheduled for final design in FY22, and construction in FY23.

Neighborhood Drainage Projects
Project Description: Various projects are in the schedule under the Neighborhood Drainage Projects program to address drainage concerns that have been evaluated and found to be eligible to be addressed through publically funded projects.

Mosby Road Drainage Improvement Project
Project Description: This project will add concrete curb/gutter, storm pipe, and inlets on Burke Station Rd and Mosby Rd to collect runoff from the roadway and convey to existing storm sewer. This will reduce runoff impacts to private properties during intense storm events.
Project Schedule: Design is in progress. Final design and construction is scheduled for FY24.

Oak St & Second St Drainage Improvement Project
Project Description:
This project will replace roadside ditch in this area with curb/gutter and storm sewer. The existing roadside ditch is eroded and very close to the edge of pavement. Replacing the ditch with curb/gutter will improve the roadway.
Project Schedule: Design and construction of drainage improvements will be done with a future Transportation Division roadway improvement project.

University Drive Outfall Relocation
Project Description: An asphalt trail passes through the southernmost section of the culvert under University Dr between Layton Hall Dr and Kenmore Ave. This culvert section also has a 30” storm sewer outfall, which creates slick conditions on the trail. This project will close the existing outfall in the box culvert and install new storm pipe to carry this runoff under the trail to an outfall point at the creek.
Project Schedule: Design is in progress. Final design and construction is scheduled for FY24.

COMPLETED PROJECTS:
Public BMP Maintenance:
- The City of Fairfax Public Works Department conducts annual inspections of each City-owned best management practice.
- The inspections reports allow the City to determine the condition of each facility.
- The Filterra units at City Hall and the Old Town Square permeable pavers undergo maintenance twice per year.
- Regularly scheduled maintenance allows the stormwater systems to function as designed.
Neighborhood Drainage Project at Roberts Rd & Forest Ave
Project Description: This project installed 500 feet of new storm pipe and 5 storm structures to replace existing undersized storm sewer infrastructure. The project alleviated flooding in the roadway and impact to private properties during heavy storm events by increasing capacity of the storm sewer collection system in this area.
Tusico Branch Stream Restoration, Phase 1
Project Description: This project restored approximately 900 linear feet of stream from Chain Bridge Rd to 10600 Springmann Dr.
Tusico Branch Stream Restoration, Phase 2
Project Description: This project restored approximately 1000 linear feet of stream from 10600 Springmann Dr to Keith Ave.
