Concepts were developed and funding has been identified for the projects listed below. Projects will be designed and constructed once the funding is received. Click the links below for additional information:

  • Country Club Commons Connector Trail
    • This trail will connect neighborhoods and commercial destinations south of Fairfax Blvd (Route 50) and west of Rebel Run to Fairfax Boulevard, the George Snyder Trail, the I-66 trail, and Vienna Metrorail station. Funding available in FY 25 with construction in FY 28/29.
  • Oak Street Sidewalk
    • This project will construct 750 linear feet of 5-foot sidewalk and drainage improvements on the west side of Oak Street between Main Street and 3934 Oak Street (just south of 2nd Street).
  • South Street Extension
    • The South Street Extension project will extend South Street from University Drive to Chain Bridge Road and signalize the new intersection at Chain Bridge Road.

Projects listed below are currently in design. Click the links below for additional information:

  • Bicycle Neighborways Guidelines & Fair Woods Parkway Neighborway
    • This project will develop guidelines for the city-wide network of Bicycle Neighborways as described in the city's bicycle plan Bike Fairfax City. It will also develop concept plans for implementing the first neighborway treatment on Fair Woods Parkway.
  • Blenheim Boulevard Multimodal Improvements
    • The plan includes a two-way cycle track and sidewalk on the north side of Blenheim Boulevard, a continuous sidewalk on the south side, and upgraded bus stops and shelters throughout the project area. Staff and a resident advisory team will refine the preliminary plans.
  • Chain Bridge Road Pedestrian and Bus Stop Improvements (Taba Cove to Warwick Ave)
    • This project will construct 1,850 linear feet of new sidewalk and improvements to bus stops along the west side of Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) between Taba Cove and Warwick Avenue. Funding available in FY 25 with construction in FY 28/29.
  • Chain Bridge Road and Eaton Place Intersection Improvements
    • While the City was originally considering replacement of the traffic signals at this intersection with a two-lane roundabout, the City has reevaluated options in light of the I-66 project, which has added a number of new traffic signals along the corridor, thus decreasing the efficiency of a roundabout in this location. The City is now planning to keep the intersection as signalized but reconfigure the approaches to improve traffic flow and safety on Chain Bridge Road.
  • George Snyder Trail 
    • The George Snyder Trail Project will complete construction of the 2 mile trail along the southern side of Accotink Creek running east/west between Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) and Fairfax Boulevard (Route 50).
  • Government Center Parkway Extension
    • This project will construct the missing link of Government Center Parkway from Stevenson Street in Fairfax County to Jermantown Road in the City of Fairfax. The project will include sidewalks, pedestrian crosswalks, on-street bike lanes, lighting, and landscaping.
  • Jermantown Road Corridor Improvements
    • This project includes spot improvements along Jermantown Road from I-66 bridge south to Fairfax Boulevard (Route 50). This option would: improve traffic operations (especially during the AM), improve ingress and egress for residential and commercial driveways, improve transit operations, minimize impacts to right of way and utilities, and improve bicycle and pedestrian movement.
  • Judicial Drive Trail
    • This project is the completion of the Judicial Drive Trail, which runs from Hallman Street to Judicial Drive. Currently, users must exit the trail at Presbyterian Way and ride on private property before reconnecting to the City's trail.
  • Pickett Road Connector Trail
    • The design for this 1,260 foot trail includes a ten-foot wide asphalt trail with two-foot shoulders, including one bridge and several boardwalk sections. The trail connects Thaiss Park to Fairfax Boulevard.
  • University Drive Bicycle Facilities
    • The project will install a mix of bike lanes and sharrows (shared lane markings) on University Drive between North Street and Layton Hall Drive. Improvements will also be made at the intersection of University Drive and Layton Hall Drive. 
  • Warwick Ave./Fairfax Blvd./McLean Ave. Intersection Improvements 
    • This project will construct improvements to the Warwick Avenue / Fairfax Boulevard / McLean Avenue intersection. The intersection will be realigned to remove two of the intersection approaches (McLean Avenue to the north of Fairfax Boulevard and Warwick Avenue to the south of Fairfax Boulevard). This improvement will reduce pedestrian crossing distances and reduce the number of intersection conflict points, thus making the intersection safer for both motorists and pedestrians.
