City of Fairfax, VA
Home MenuBicycle and Pedestrian Counts
While motorized vehicle travel is well documented, there is limited information about the number of people who walk and bike in the City of Fairfax. Counts of bicyclists and pedestrians are essential to help understand and plan for active transportation and recreation needs.
The City periodically collects bicycle and pedestrian count data through a variety of methods such as automated counters and volunteer counts. Volunteer count methods generally follow methods outlined by the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project. Bicycle and pedestrian counts may also be included in larger traffic studies.
