The City of Fairfax Police recommend all children younger than age 12, when riding in a vehicle, be properly restrained in the vehicle’s rear seat using safety seats and restraint devices (seat belts, etc.) approved for their ages and sizes. Additionally, Virginia law requires children younger than age 6 to be in safety seats. Safety seats should not be installed in front seats of vehicles with air bags; however, some vehicles with front seat air bags provide shutoff switches.
