Registering to vote, updating your registration, and applying to vote by mail can be done entirely online conveniently through the Virginia Department of Elections Citizen Portal.

Alternatively, the following forms can be emailed to Registrar@fairfaxva.gov or mailed to:

Voter Registration Application


Note: registration forms can only be accepted by email if you are making an update to your existing Virginia registration; registration forms cannot be accepted by email for first-time registrants. If it is your first time registering to vote in Virginia and you are registering with the Voter Registration Application, it must be submitted either in person or by mail.


Absentee Ballot Application

You may apply to vote absentee by mail either in a single election or to receive absentee ballots by mail permanently in all future elections in which you are eligible to vote until you move or choose to opt out. If you select that option, you will automatically be mailed ballots for future elections without needing to complete additional applications.


Virginia Permanent Absentee Voter Change form - if you have already completed the Absentee Ballot Application to be enrolled on the Permanent Absentee Voter List and you wish to temporarily change your ballot mailing address, party preference for primary elections, or if you wish to be removed from the Permanent Absentee Voter List.

Statement of Voter SBE-708 - for re-issue of a by-mail ballot if that ballot is not received or is lost. For more information and detailed options on spoiled or lost ballots, please contact us at (703) 385-7891 or Registrar@fairfaxva.gov.

Request to Cancel Voter Registration - if you have moved to another state or if you wish to cancel your current VA voter registration for any other reason.

Report of Death of Registered Voter - to be completed by a relative or personal representative of the deceased voter's estate.
