The City of Fairfax has established a homelessness task force to address the impact of homelessness within the city, both for individuals experiencing homelessness and the greater community.
The purpose of this task force is to help the city to be a community that supports all people, accomplished through facilitated community dialogue and interface with existing systems serving individuals at risk or experiencing homelessness.
Task Force Goals
The City of Fairfax Homelessness Task Force will serve as the local coalition and the coordinating body for efforts to end homelessness, coordinating and overseeing implementation of these strategies and activities to address homelessness in the city:
- Seek to better understand the scope and cause of homelessness in City of Fairfax
- Identify and recommend short- and long-term action plans that our community can undertake to address the issues.
- Create opportunities for dialogue and input from city business owners to identify current pain points and address a path forward and viable solutions.
- Establish a forum to involve, coordinate, educate, and share knowledge between local stakeholders regarding local efforts to address homelessness.
- Develop recommendations on how the City of Fairfax can engage on current issues connected to homelessness which may include: budget, legislative matters, and the current service system in place with our partners.
- Coordinate with local and regional homelessness partners to better understand current issues, needs of the population, and potential system barriers.

About the Task Force
Led by Councilmember So Lim and Councilmember Kate Doyle Feingold, with Mayor Catherine Read, the task force is comprised of city residents, and representatives from city businesses (including at least one representative from Fairfax Circle businesses). Also on the task force are representatives from human service organizations connected to the Partnership to Prevent and End Homelessness service continuum, including the Lamb Center, FACETS, and the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board. The city human services director will serve as advisor and staff support for the task force.
Key partners of the task force include the city police department, city fire department (including a community paramedic), the city parks and recreation department, the city economic development office, the Office to Prevent and End Homelessness, City of Fairfax Regional Library, and the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce.
The task force meets quarterly, with an option to meet more frequently. Meetings, which will be open to the public, are listed below and on the city calendar.
Task force members were chosen through an application/interview process to ensure membership reflects diverse stakeholder perspectives.
